The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) supports the development, economic growth, and retention of District-based businesses, and promotes economic development throughout the District's commercial corridors.

DSLBD SmallBiz Assist offers one-on-one sessions for DC-based entrepreneurs and businesses to learn more about their programs, connect with additional services in the District, and develop a for- profit business. Most DSLBD meetings are available at the Martin Luther King, .Jr Memorial Library on Wednesdays, but you can book with an advisor on DSLBDs’ website.
DC APEX Accelerator offers personalized business counseling and competitive insights for navigating the government contracting process successfully. You can receive assistance with contract research to subcontracting and proposal preparation, DC Apex can help small businesses navigate the procurement process more confidently and efficiently.
The WeAspire Training and Pitch Competition is a 14-week business training program for DC residents who were previously incarcerated and/or justice involved (parole or probation) and seeking to build or launch their businesses. DSLBD also offers the Dream Pitch Program, an 8-week cohort-based training program for microbusinesses in Ward 7 and 8.
The Made in DC program supports and promotes DC resident- owned businesses that make products locally, including intellectual property (music, art, patent, and written works).
