The Congress Heights Community Training & Development Corporation’s (CHCTDC) mission is to increase equity and economic opportunity in underserved communities in the Washington, DC areas East of the Anacostia River (Wards 7 & 8) by investing knowledge, social, and financial capital in low- and moderate-income entrepreneurs. Our mission is driven by three strategic pillars: inclusive entrepreneurship, community wealth building, and equitable economic development, and is fulfilled by providing access to capital products and services, and capacity-building technical assistance to low- and moderate-income residents in depressed areas, specifically enterprise, economic, and development zones.

Programs and Services Offered

CHCTDC offers The Black Bone Project providing Black woman- identifying founders with access to community, capital, and capacity building in order to meet business milestones that lead to economic advancement through entrepreneurship. Through the program they ignite civic engagement and hyperlocal infrastructure at the intersection of business support services, supplier diversity, and social and financial capital.

They also provide technical support to small start-ups and businesses within the District including help with navigating the District’s regulations, business plan development, marketing, federal license support, contract management, and other back- office guidance. They offer advise on business expansion through knowledge surrounding financial capital options, succession planning, and support with selling and closing processes.

CHCTDC’s Sycamore and Oak program is an incubator project space within Parcel 15 of St. Elizabeth’s, that is community-led and community-serving created to address retail gaps in the Congress Heights community.

Their Interim Retail Village (IRV) is a cohort program to support retailers at Sycamore and Oak. Cohort members receive retail space rental support, small business technical assistance, business insight coaching, and a latitude for increased customer collaboration. Businesses are all owned by residents of Wards 7 and 8.
